A Double Blind Study of Topical PIROXICAM GEL 0.5% in the Treatment of Acute Musculoskeletal Disorders

Abstract
|

|
NSAID´s are used in the treatment of acute nusculoskeletal disorders. The administration routes have been taken in oral or parenteral formulation. But these have wide adverse reactions. We have tried in topical application of PIROXICAM GEL 0. 5% to the injured area. This study is undertaken in double blind method.
The ointment was applied to 38 patients in each group, who have got acute musculoskeletal disorders.
The treatment was taken two times a day and underwent for less than 15 days. We have the following results:
PIROXICAM GEL 0.5% reduced pain on rest and movement, and also enhanced the range of physical activity from 8th day to 15th day of topical application. As far as the efficacy which was evaluated as excellent or good is concerned, it was 73.7% by the patient and 71.7% by the physicians. About the toleration which was evaluated as excellent or good, it was 71. 1% by the patient and 68.4% by the physicians. There were no appreciable adverse reactions in topical applications.
